Adikanfo

The cultural Group Adikanfo from Ghana has taking upon itself to preserve a choice selection of many different cultures existing in Ghana, showing the richnes of their great traditions.

The traditional dances and rhythms are neglected by the media and pushed into the background in favour of contemporaly pop music which is mainstream of radio and TV. So, instead of joining international pop, Adikanfo presents the best of indiginous music and dance which this West African country has to offer, played on traditional instruments like the talking drums, atunpan, obrante (kpanlogo) kete set, penpensiwa, gomme, fontonfrom, dawuro, blekete, dawuro as well as SEPEREWA a traditional harp of the 18 th century, not to forget the vocal element which rounds up the impresive arraingements.
Adikanfo truly performs the the spirit of SANKOFA, it is looking back to go forward. The group enriches its cultural scene by using the old to create new. To witness a live performance of the group is an unforgetable experience and if you have chance and a little bit of space around you, your body will certainly want to move along too.

Mark Kofi Asamoah established his group Adikanfo in early 2000. Currently its comprises out of nine musicians and dancers, with several of them formarly working with institutions such as the Centre for National Culture in Kumasi and the Natinal Dance Ensemble in Accra.
