Fanfare Ciociarlia

Fanfare Ciocarlia is currently the best and most popular brass Romany Gypsy ensemble. It consists of 12 artists and they are the fastest brass band in the world - playing at 200 bpm. Except for speed, they are also known by their stamina - up to 30 hours of playing non-stop!

Their popularity and quality are best witnessed by the fact they are performing in 30 European cities in 30 days (Vienna, Barcelona, Prag, Paris, Berlin...). They are also part of The Time of Gypsies project, which includes 40 Gypsy musicians: Fanfare Ciocarlia, Taraf de Haidouks, Esma Redžepova. They released three albums for the German label Piranha Musik Produktion Verlag AG.

Building on the tradition of military brass bands coming from Turkey, which inspired all brass bands at the Balkans, they set off a musical firework display, with an unbelievable talent for intricate rhythms and dizzy tempos. Not limiting themselves to tradition, they take current movie tunes, from Bollywood to Hollywood, and cover international radio hits in their own Fanfare Ciocarlia style. They recently recorded an album showing their interest in researching music: joint project with the famous Bulgarian women.

Documentary "IAG BARI - Brass On Fire-Road Movie" features this band from small Romanian village of Zece Prajini (literally meaning 'ten fields'). Director Ralf Marschalleck visualized the two exciting but so different worlds the musicians of the Gypsy Brass Band Fanfare Ciocarlia live in: one day they play at the wedding in the neighboring village, the next performing on the big concert stages abroad. Wherever they play, as soon as they come on stage a big party begins, capturing all the guests!
